Work Description

This month, I want to work on traditional blackwork. I found a portrait of Mary Tudor & wanted to base my design on the detailed work on her collar. This design is adapted from the corner of a 19th Century Russian linen towel. The towel is part of the Embroiderers' Guild collection. The original pattern is embroidered in pink silk on linen. I was inspired by the blackwork of the collar from the portrait of Mary Tudor (1516 - 58), which is at The National Portrait Gallery, London, UK.
