Stitching Projects - Blackwork Journal - September 2019
Work Description
I wanted to learn a couple of new skills this year, 2019. I decided on improving my knitting skills, exploring texture & colour, I also wanted to learn 'Blackwork', something I have wanted to do for many years. I was given a large box full of silk threads. I am unsure of the age, some people think c1940's, others think possibly earlier. I couldn't decide what to do with them, should I keep them preserved as they are, or use them as they were intended? I think they should be used, with the cardboard roll included in the project book. This will show the history of the thread. This month, I wanted to pick out a pattern from a portrait & reproduce it as a piece of blackwork, on Aida canvas. My blackwork pattern is based on the clothing from 'The Lady in Green' portrait by Agnolo Bronzine (1503-72). This is the blackwork pattern, taken from around the collar & down the front of the bodice. I used: Deputy - Rayon Twist - Shade Black
