Jen Fox
Jen Fox Studios was created in 2009 and specializes in handbags and accessory sewing patterns for the home sewist. "Transfer - Embellish - Stitch: 16 Textile Projects for the Modern Maker", a book I co-authored with Sarah Case and published by C&T Publishing / Stash Books, was released in October 2016. My first fabric collection of quilting cottons, "Nomad", was released in 2014 through P&B Textiles.
My approach to sewing is a combination of the attitudes of the women in my family who came before me: my great aunt was precise and painstaking in her elaborate traditional piecing and hand quilting; my grandmother was frugal and resourceful, using what she had on hand to sew warm, simple patchwork blankets that I slept under many cold winters in eastern Pennsylvania at her home. My mother has a no-fail attitude when approaching her sewing and is an innate problem solver; she has been a constant source of encouragement for all of my artistic endeavours. She challenges me to create my own inventive solutions to creative projects and treat roadblocks like obstacles to be solved and overcome. The result of these varied influences has been one part precision and technique, one part resourcefulness, and two parts pure stubbornness and gusto. For me, Jen Fox Studios is a compilation of these attitudes and I sincerely hope that my sewing patterns and products can provide you with the skills along with the encouragement to use your own creativity so that you create projects that show off your own personal style.
I am constantly inspired by the things around me: clean lines in architecture, textures and patterns, the sunsets of the southwest, and the mountains and deserts. My professional background is in interior design, and I approach each sewing project as a design problem to solve.
I am lucky to call the beautiful high desert of Albuquerque, New Mexico home. When I'm not sewing and creating, I enjoy hiking, biking, camping, daydreaming, and being outside as much as possible.
