Icelandic Costume Peg Doll - DK Wool
Work Description
This peg doll wears an Icelandic national costume. Icelandic costumes are generally black in colour, it is thought this is because they do not have the natural resources to make dyes. The dress is a work costume, with a white blouse under the black bodice. Young girls would wear sleeveless bodices and blue aprons. Gold was used in the designs, with Celtic & Viking motifs and gold jewellery. This doll wears a skull cap with a long black tassel, this would of been fixed to the cap with gold rings. Hair would normally be worn in plaits and strong leather shoes were worn.
