— Our Commitment —
We consider doing it yourself as a contribution to sustainable behavior in everyday life. We also repeatedly question our consumer behavior. Those who create clothes themselves buy less. The fewer new items are consumed, the less the environment is polluted. Many of our values, which you can read more about here, stand for sustainability. Through creativity, we want to promote creation instead of consumption, because self-made things have a higher value for us than things that were bought in the store..
At Makerist there has been a Green Team since spring 2020 that works together to make our behavior, our work processes and Makerist as a whole company even more sustainable. This is an exciting learning process for us and we are always happy to receive new input. Some small but effective innovations of the Green Team included the supply of the office with green electricity, a new train-before-flight policy and the decision that company celebrations only offer vegan-vegetarian food. Our concern for the environment is also reflected in our behavior regarding the use of plastic, waste separation, shipping and logistics decisions. We also support the slow fashion movement and the makers behind it as an act of ecological sustainability.
MAKERIST IS CLIMATE NEUTRAL
A first big step was the calculation of our Co2 emissions with the help of the organizations Leaders for Climate Action and ClimatePartner. We then fully offset the emissions of 29,055 kg of CO2 through the climate protection project "Clean Cooking Stoves, Nyungwe, Rwanda".In this way, we also promote the achievement of global sustainability goals, such as gender equality and the improvement of living conditions in emerging and developing countries.
You can view our certificate here, you can find more information about Climate Partner and our Carbon offset here.
YOU TOO CAN BECOME PART OF A SUSTAINABLE DIY MOVEMENT
Change something together, achieve a lot together. We all worry about the future of the planet and the consequences of senseless environmental degradation. Climate change, polluted seas, loads of plastic waste, poor working conditions and rising greenhouse gases are just a few of the issues that we now have to tackle together. Not only does each individual bear part of the responsibility, companies now also have to rethink.
At Makerist, we want to show responsibility and inspire others to live more sustainably. Because the considerate use of important resources is firmly anchored in our values. With small steps we can achieve great things together.
On this page we want to show you how you can make your creative hobby even more sustainable. Creating something new from the old, cutting fabrics sparingly, making clothes yourself - these are just a few examples of how close DIY and sustainability are to one another. There is a lot of new knowledge to discover: Which products are really sustainable and certified? How can you also use resources more consciously in everyday life? How can I make my hobby even more sustainable?

WHAT IS SUSTAINABILITY?
The term sustainability has a variety of meanings and - depending on the point of view - stands for a careful and responsible use of social, ecological and economic reserves. This means that the long-term existence of these resources should on the one hand be secured and on the other hand be able to renew themselves naturally. The term originally comes from forestry and means cutting down only as many trees as will constantly grow back. One thought behind this is, for example, the wish that future generations can continue to live on this planet. Social sustainability, on the other hand, means that everyone has equal opportunities for prosperity and education.
