Welcome to our Designer Spotlight Feature, where we introduce our new passionate and creative designers and feature their amazing designs!This week we spoke to Christine of Sewing And The City, who creates beautiful patterns for women. We spoke about her journey as pattern designer, her workspace, and what gets her out of her creative slump.

What inspired you to become a pattern designer?

"I’ve been a prolific sewist since I was 6 years old and that led me to a 15 year career in fashion. I found myself working for some of the most prestigious fashion brands in the world, where my love of fashion grew along with my design skills. When I left the corporate world, it was to pursue my passion of sewing...and with Sewing and the City, I get to share the clothes I love with others through my patterns."

Why is pattern design so important to you?

"One of the unexpected magical things about being a pattern designer is seeing my patterns made by others in their own unique ways. I literally get so excited when someone tags me on Instagram! Sewists have brought my patterns to life in ways I would never think of and it’s so cool to be able to have a part in inspiring creativity in others!"

Do you have your own studio? Tell us about your workspace!

"In December, I moved into my very own studio! It’s about 400sq feet with an entire wall of windows with beautiful natural light overlooking the church and old town square where the clock tower bells ring every hour. I live on a small Spanish island and my studio is in an opulent Art Deco building right in the center of the Capitol city, on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a dreamy space for all of my creations and my office, too."

What's your favourite pattern you've created?

"That’d have to be the Mercer top! It’s also one of our best sellers, so it’s not just my favorite! I love the sleeve detail that we call the flange. It’s a serious power shoulder that also offers a bit of upper arm coverage which I love! You also have the option to make it with sleeves. There are so many ways you can style it, but I usually wear one of my many Mercers tucked into high waisted jeans with a belt."

Do you make any of the products yourself and if so, do you enjoy the making process?

"I’m incredibly lucky to be able to concentrate fully on bringing my own dynamic value into the world. Alongside creating patterns and courses for Sewing and the City, I’m also a consultant, helping other creative entrepreneurs package their expertise and position it to sell online."

When you’re experiencing a creative block, how do you get back into the spirit?

"If I’m ever having a block it’s usually one of two things: I’m tired and need a break, preferably in nature or I’m having resistance to what it is I want to do, so diving deeper into whatever that resistance is and then working through it gets me back in the spirit."

What do you like about the Makerist platform to sell your patterns on?

"I love the promotional aspect of Makerist and that the incredible marketing team is always working to bring new ideas and interesting promotions to the Makerist sewists. It’s an amazing place to shop for patterns because you can find so many unique designers, and I find the pattern search function on the site very robust!"

Can you tell us three things about yourself that nobody may know?

"Hello! I’m Christine Lindebak and I am an American currently living in Spain. I love to sew (obviously) and I love fashion and city life! I lived in New York for 7 years and that’s where I first had the idea for Sewing and the City. I also love escaping the city to get my feet in nature and enjoy hiking and discovering hidden beaches where there is no one but you. I’m married to my sweet husband and we have a dog named Owen."
