Is there anything cuter than a baby in a handknitted hat? A baby AND a toddler in handknitted hats! These hats let you personalise with favourite colours above and below the black and white chevron stripes; perfect for having a similar look without being too matching.
Design The hats are worked flat, on 3.5mm/US4 knitting needles, and are seamed when finished – an edge st is worked as a seam allowance. Only two colours are used at any one time, so they are an ideal introduction to bold colourwork. The pattern was first published in the UK magazine 'Your Knitting & Crochet' and a colourwork chart and written instructions are provided.
Yarn Fingering or 4 ply weight yarn in 4 colours. Sample shown worked in Blue (MC1), Black, White & Peach (MC2) (Baby size) and Yellow (MC1), Black, White and Red (MC2) (Toddler size) acrylic or polyester yarn. 80m/88yds of each colour used. One skein of black and white is plenty for working stripes on both hats. The hats are ideal for stashbusting, as only small amounts of yarn are needed, and the black and white stripes allow for any combination of colours above and below them.
Two different sizes are provided: Baby Hat (6-12 mths) 16cm height, 38cm circumference (6¼” height, 15” circumference) Toddler Hat (1-3 yrs) 20cm height, 43cm circumference (8” height, 17” circumference)
AranAccessories
I'm a knitter from the Aran Islands, combining traditional elements of Aran knitting (e.g. cables, lattice work) with more modern techniques, such as seamless knitting, to create my own original designs.
I first learnt to knit when I was about 6, and, at school, we moved on to Aran knitting pretty quickly! I kept knitting over the years, as a hobby, and also started knitting some items for my cousin to sell on Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands. Then came the brainwave of setting up a shop online, so people could buy original Aran knits without having to come all the way here! I loved creating my own original designs, and eventually made the step to publishing them : )
I'm always happy to hear from you if you have any queries about my shop! You can find my online shop at www.aranaccessories.net and follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr @aranaccessories ; I am on Facebook at aranaccessories.net Le gach beannacht/With best wishes, Máirín Ní Dhonncha
