The FABRIC PIECED VOILA VASE is my first pattern release of a dimensional "fabric pieced" item. The result is a large flared vase with the option of adding a topper. (The topper piece can be made separately to be removable or permanently stitched in place.)
Choose your fabrics well and you'll end up with a stunning designer item to display on a mantle or shelf. The finished vase (without the topper) measures 8” wide x 10” high (20cm x 25.5cm). The base is a 4” (10cm) square. With the topper piece, it is about 13” (33cm) high.
This is a surprising simple project, so don't be scared away by the idea of the "3D-ness". If you have basic sewing experience and can handle fusible interfacing, you'll have success with this. Not only that, while it's certainly your choice if you want to sew these pieces together by hand, my method uses machine sewing —as long as your sewing machine is capable of a zigzag stitch and handling some thick layers — that will enable you to make this vase in an evening. (You will still have to finish up with some hand-sewing.)
IMPORTANT: If your fabric has a directional print or if you want to fussy-cut, you'll need more than the amount of fabric noted below.
