Materials you need at home:
- For an approximately life-sized turnip around 24cm long you will need double-knitting (DK, light worsted weight, Category 3) yarn in approximately the following quantities:
- -- white or cream 13.5m
- -- purple or pink 13m
- -- pale green* 5.5m
- -- dark green 24m
- *If you can't find a coordinating pale green, the design works very well if you use white/cream for this too.
- You will also need:
- -- a 3.5mm crochet hook
- -- stuffing material
- -- a yarn needle
- -- scissors
Aren't turnips beautiful! This crochet copy of nature's design has shading on the root and three different, naturally uneven leaves. No visible seams or front/back - it looks great from all angles!
Like all my fruit and veg, these turnips are designed to be realistic and approximately life-sized when made in double-knitting (light worsted weight, Category 3) yarn, with a 3.5mm (E-4) crochet hook. But of course you can make it larger or smaller with your choice of yarn and an appropriate hook.
The pattern includes detailed notes on yarn quantities and types, and stuffing choices.
The patterns in UK and US crochet terminology are included - you can just choose whichever you prefer to use.
All my patterns come with my full support - just e-mail me if you have any questions.
Important features of my crochet patterns: My crochet patterns include both a detailed 'tutorial-style' set of instructions with colour photos, and a succinct unillustrated pattern using standard crochet conventions - the best of both worlds!
