Materials you need at home:
- 1 yd (91.4cm)* for a standard-size bag, 23" (58.4cm)* for a mini-size bag of light to medium-weight fabric with a non-directional print (to ensure a consistent appearance on both sides) or in a flat colour *Note that the width of the fabric piece needs to be at least 16" (40.6cm) to create 1 standard-size bag and/or 10" (25.4cm) to create 1 mini-size bag but you can make them any width (or height) you like!
- 62" (~1.6m) for a standard-size bag and/or 40" (~1m) for a mini-size bag of 1¼" (32mm)-wide cotton webbing for the handles
- Marking aids, such as an erasable pen or chalk
- Sewing machine
- Size 12 (80) (or one suitable for your fabric) machine needle (universal)
- Matching machine-sewing thread
- Sewing clips or pins
- Fabric scissors
- Steam iron, ironing board, and pressing aids
- Ruler or measuring tape
"Tete-a-Tote" is a simple shopping bag made from a single piece of fabric folded in half. There are no raw edges to worry about as they all get hidden, and there are very few seams to make. It’s a quick, easy, and super-satisfying beginner project!
