I remember in my child hood, the late 1950’s, socks were made from left-over pullover yarn. Most of the time the cuff, heel, and toe sections where done with different yarn than the rest of the socks. Back then, this was not a design feature. It had to be done because there wasn’t enough yarn of one kind. I still do mix different colors and yarns and find it quite ‘normal’ to make socks this way. Prickle Prints socks reflect the look of this old way of making socks. They appear simple but have interesting knitting sections. Worked from the top down, the socks start with a 1/1 ribbed cuff in contrasting. A 2-color slipped stitch design transitions to the main color leg. One row of contrasting color transitions from the leg into a traditional cap heel worked in contrasting color. Knit stitches for the instep and purl stitches for the soles are just a little departure from the norm to keep the sock knitter interested and the sock wearer extra comfortable with the smooth inside touching the foot. After another mirror image 2-color slipped stitch design, the toes are completed in the contrasting color.
