Old Romance is a richly coloured, highly detailed blanket with surface crochet, front post crochet and simple embroidery. The colours feel very vintage and the design was inspired by old tapestries, carpet bags and rugs. It is lovely as a baby blanket, lap blanket or throw.
It is made up of octagons and squares which are put together before adding a border section.
If made up as per pattern, the finished blanket is 34”/86cm square, but it is easily scaled up or down (just remember to adjust yarn quantities).
I recommend a 4mm hook. If you usually size up or down from that to work with DK, I recommend that you use your usual hook for the best results. You will also need a darning/tapestry needle for the embroidery (which is very simple, honestly).
The pattern asks for 10 x 100g of Stylecraft Special DK in various colours. You can of course use any yarn, providing you use the appropriate size hook and adjust the quantity of yarn required.
