This super-foxy hat is a variation on the pink PussyHat Project that you can make in pink, orange, grey, or any main color that grabs you. With a lighter intarsia face and ears and a black nose, occasional stranded colorwork, and clever embroidered eyes, this unique hat will keep your knitting hands interested and then your head warm and foxy at protests, as part of a costume, or for every chilly day. The pattern includes an option to knit the in-the-round or flat-and seamed.
Difficulty: Intermediate (using intarsia in-the-round, stranded colorwork, Bulgarian cast-on, and kitchener grafting). (Up to 2 glasses of wine: you do have to pay some attention.)
Materials: 124-142 yds. (113-130m) worsted weight yarn, depending on gauge: 94-102 yds. (86-93m) main color (MC), 8-25 yds. (7-23m) contrasting (light) color (CC), and 1-13 yds. (1-12m) black or brown. Buy a bit extra in case.
Tools: tapestry needle to weave in ends; scissors; and a tape measure.
Rebekah Wilce Designs
I've been knitting and designing since I was a kid. I began developing knitting patterns for Charissa Pray Designs in collaboration with my sister in 2018. My favorite patterns have unusual and spicy stitches and incorporate the natural forms of my off-grid desert home (foxes, spiders, spirals, and knobbly textures), joining traditional elements with the modern, quirky, and even sexy. I believe in a #FashionRevolution and my current work on that revolves around thrifting, quite a bit of visible (and occasional invisible) mending, hand sewing, and knitting.
