Materials you need at home:
- The top of the flamenco dress is made of stretchy fabrics: It is best to use stretchy, yet rather stable jersey with a high amount of elastane/spandex (“stretch jersey“). You can use cotton, polyester, viscose, microfiber jersey, but they have to contain elastane. Bathing fabric/sports lycra is also an idea.
- For the skirt and ruffles, it is best to use light (!), non- stretchy fabrics, such as taffeta lining fabric, lightweight (!) woven cotton fabrics (e.g. batiste, voile), chiffon, organza or tulle.
- also you need sewing thread etc.
PDF tutorial with sewing pattern: Flamenco dress for girls
This is THE pattern for gorgeous dresses – for carnival, the stage and the small or big performance!
My classic cut girls' flamenco dress has a narrow top made of stretch and a wide, approx. calf-length skirt with three or four lavish ruffles.
You can sew the party dress with short sleeves, fluttering frill sleeves or with (half)long, tight sleeves.
For everyday clothing, shorten the skirt as desired and leave the frills or even the complete skirt away.
Besides typical flamenco dresses, you can also sew the most amazing costumes from this pattern: princesses and dancers, witches, fairies, ... – simply everything you need for dress and show! And it‘s just perfect for special occasions!
Level of difficulty: Medium. Some patience is almost more important than sewing skills :) You can sew the flamenco dress with or without using a serger.
