Stars are one of my favorite motives in patchwork and as much as I love the various complex versions there’s no one that reminds me more of a beautiful clear and starry night sky as a simple five pointed star – after all my favorite painting is Vincent van Goghs „Starry Night“. ☆
In this pattern there is a bit of space between the star points and the edge of the block which makes the star smaller than the block size but easier to sew to other blocks. If you prefer a pattern with the star points at the very edge of the block please check out my pattern „Five Pointed Star“.
The pattern comes in nine sizes (3“, 4“, 4.5“, 5“, 6“, 7“, 8“, 9“ and 10“, unfinished at 3.5“, 4.5“, 5“, 5.5“, 6.5“, 7.5“, 8.5“, 9.5“ and 10.5“), with a coloring sheet and a bunch of design examples. The individual sections are clearly labeled and have a ¼“ seam allowance. There are no curves or y-seams.
The pattern comes as PDF files in A4 and US Letter paper format.
This is a beginner friendly Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) pattern that assumes basic knowledge of paper piecing. It does not include detailed FPP instructions or further instructions for turning it into e.g. a pillow or a quilt. You can find lots of free tutorials for the various FPP methods online.
This pattern can be made with just cotton scraps from your stash.

I grew up with the sound of my mum's and grandma's sewing machines and have been sewing since my teenage years. Focused on clothes and accessories first a few years ago I caught the patchwork virus and have been hooked up ever since.
Meanwhile I create my own designs and write patterns for traditional piecing and foundation paper piecing in English and German for beginners and advanced sewers. I love to experiment with different colors and designs and to see what others create with my ideas.
