I came up with the design for my latest pattern, the Easy Tweed Beanie out of a simple need: I really wanted to use up the beautiful smaller amounts of wool that I had left from previous knits, and these lovely hats became the perfect solution!
You can use the pattern to create truly unique hats, as the combination of yarns you choose is up to you! The interplay of colours adds such interest to the fabric; creating a one-off artisan item of clothing. Each hat can use yarn which is leftover from other projects, making this a great eco-friendly and stash-busting pattern.
The hats are knit using a colourwork technique which is perfect for beginners: slip stitch knitting, or mosaic knitting. You only work with ONE colour on each row, so no need to worry about carrying the yarn at the back of your work. I wrote the pattern to suit worsted or Aran weight yarn, and it is worked in the round. Two sizes of circular needle are needed: US7 & US8 (4.5mm & 5mm).
AranAccessories
I'm a knitter from the Aran Islands, combining traditional elements of Aran knitting (e.g. cables, lattice work) with more modern techniques, such as seamless knitting, to create my own original designs.
I first learnt to knit when I was about 6, and, at school, we moved on to Aran knitting pretty quickly! I kept knitting over the years, as a hobby, and also started knitting some items for my cousin to sell on Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands. Then came the brainwave of setting up a shop online, so people could buy original Aran knits without having to come all the way here! I loved creating my own original designs, and eventually made the step to publishing them : )
I'm always happy to hear from you if you have any queries about my shop! You can find my online shop at www.aranaccessories.net and follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr @aranaccessories ; I am on Facebook at aranaccessories.net Le gach beannacht/With best wishes, Máirín Ní Dhonncha
