One, two, three, four! These smart socks proceed with strict regularity, slipped stitches defining the rhythm of an unchanging pattern repeat. The band heel means no gusset, and so no change in stitch count, just a steady march down to the toes.
Worked from the top down, the heel flap is worked in rows with a short-row heel turn. Stitches are picked up on each side of the heel flap and the foot is worked in the round with the same number of stitches as the leg. Gender-neutral patterning and a full range of nine sizes will let you knit these for everyone you know.
This knitting pattern includes detailed written directions, and front and back images.
Meant to be worn with approx 10% negative ease—choose a finished size approx 0.5" (smallest sizes) to 1.25" (largest size) smaller than foot.
Substitution Notes: The original yarn is a luxuriously soft sock yarn with cashmere and merino. Choose a fingering weight sock yarn. Look for a wool blend yarn with some nylon, mohair or silk for strength and a tight twist and multiple plies for a sock that will last.
Techniques: Knitting in the round, increases/decreases, slipped stitches, basic cuff down sock construction, band heel, heel flap, picking up stitches.
