The dress GAUN for women is a dress for all occasions. Depending on the fabric, it is a real basic garment, but can also be very chic. In any case, it's easy to sew and offers space for decorations as desired. The skirt piece is slightly gathered at the waist, and you can choose between a round neck or a v-neck. The short or long sleeves make GAUN a pattern for the whole year!
GAUN is sewn from stretchy fabrics such as jersey, viscose jersey, light knitwear, French Terry or stretchy jacquard. The pattern is designed for a dress ending at knee-height. Nonetheless, it can certainly be shortened or lengthened as preferred.
GAUN is Indonesian and translates into "dress". How fitting for an incredibly cute dress that should not be missing in any closet!
The dress GAUN is sewn easily. Even beginners should not have any problems with it. The gathering of the skirt section requires a bit of diligence, but it's not complicated. We explain exactly how to do it. With our instructions you will succeed in sewing the dress without any difficulties.
Fabric recommendations
GAUN is sewn from stretchy fabrics such as jersey, viscose jersey, lightweight knit, French Terry or stretchy jacquard. Keep in mind that some fabrics can be stretchy, but also very thick. This could add bulk to the gathering of the skirt part!
For fabrics that could quickly wear out or warp, such as knitted fabrics or viscose jerseys, we recommend reinforcing the shoulder seams, neckline and waist seam. Suitable for this purpose is e.g. flexible fusible web seam tape and for the waist elastic tape in 5 mm width.
Fabric consumption
For GAUN you will need the following amounts of fabric (based on 140 cm fabric width plus seam allowances and buffers):
Sizes 34 - 36 - 1.60 m Sizes 38 - 40 - 1.80 m Sizes 42 - 48 - 2.00 m Sizes 50 - 52 - 2.50 m
You will also need: Slightly elastic interfacing (especially for knitted fabrics!): 1.30 m, e.g. flexible fusible web seam tape Elastic to reinforce the waist seam (especially recommended for knitted fabrics and viscose jersey!): 1 m, 5 mm wide Optionally 5 cm cuffed fabric for the neckline Color matching sewing thread
