This pincushion project is ideal for beginners to have a proper taste on sashiko - a unique country embroidery from Japan.
Sashiko uses only one stitch - the simplest running stitch - to create striking patterns on indigo fabrics. It is easy to learn and the result is stunning.
For a good experience and results, it is important for beginners to start with special sashiko fabric, needle and thread. These are specially made for sashiko and different from the standard needles and threads for hand sewing and embroidery.
As it can be difficult and sometimes pricy to source these items, we have created a Sashiko Pincusion DIY Kit with everything you need to create it, along with two stitch patterns and sewing instructions. Please check our other listing for the Kit. The Kit includes the printed patterns and sewing instructions.
