Materials you need at home:
- Main Fabric: Choose a fabric that is lightweight, fluid, wrinkle-resistant (or minimally so), and slightly stretchy (10 to 20% stretch is mandatory; if the child's head circumference exceeds the measurement chart, feel free to go beyond this percentage and sew the front neckline with a stretch stitch). You can opt for knit fabric, but also for woven fabric if it contains elastane (minimum 2%). It can be slightly transparent. Ultra-light to light weight (maximum 200g/m²; avoid going beyond this) Elasticity of at least 10 to 20%, but it can be more without any problem (adjust according to the child's head circumference and choose a more stretchy fabric if necessary) Examples: viscose, viscose poplin, crepe, jersey, modal, batiste (don’t forget elastane for woven fabrics).
- Lining Fabric: Choose a very stretchy (minimum 50%) and breathable stretch fabric (e.g., sports fabrics), also lightweight to light weight, again without exceeding 200g/m². Important: The two fabrics should complement each other well in terms of density, and ideally, the combined weight per m² of both should not exceed 250g/m². The weight of the lining should be greater than that of the main fabric.
- Flat elastic band 1/4" wide
Cylia is a lightweight and very comfortable little girl’s dress. It slips on like a t-shirt thanks to its stretchiness (no buttonholes or zippers).
It features an elasticated waist and is fully lined. For a touch of elegance, it also has a series of three flat pleats at the neckline, as well as a flat pleat on each shoulder.
Due to its design using stretch fabrics, the recommended sewing level for this project is intermediate. However, if you are motivated beginners, you can also succeed by carefully following the video and the instructions in the booklet, and practicing on fabric scraps if you have never sewn with elastic materials before.
