Inspired by my little girl’s request for a “pretty Halloween costume that isn’t a fairy” - because 9 years old is obviously far too grown up for fairies! - I designed the Day of the Dead Wrap.
The centre panel is worked in squares, joining as you go, and then the wrap is worked outwards from each side of the panel to the size required. Using all the yarn as listed gives a good sized wrap, at least 18”x 40”.
Gauge is not important, but use a hook that gives good, even tension and isn’t too loose. 4mm usually works for most.
The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK in 5 shades - Black, White, Turquoise, Magenta and Lipstick, just 1 ball of each, a very economical make.
Stitches used include granny squares/stripes and front post stitches. There is also some simple embroidery. The written pattern includes photos as a visual aid for joining the squares and working the embroidery. The pattern is written in both UK and US terms.
