Materials you need at home:
- The riding pants are made using stretchy, four-way stretch fabric. To create proper riding breeches, you need strong fabric that can be stretched in both directions (e.g. bi-elastic stretch denim, thin softshell, strong double knit jersey etc.).
- You can also use stretch jersey or sweat if the breeches won’t be used for riding (leisure pants).
- The seat is made from elastic non-slip material, such as stretch faux suede.
- For the elastic inserts at the hem you might want to use a small piece of very stretchy fabric such as spandex / bathing suit lycra or similar.
PDF tutorial with sewing pattern bundle: Riding pants for ladies and children
Have you always wanted to make your own professional-looking riding breeches? Then you have come to the right place!
My full-seat breeches feature an elasticated waistband and a fly front. For the hem, you can choose between velcro fasteners and elastic inserts. You can also add belt loops and a small pocket.
You can, of course, also use this riding breeches sewing pattern to make your own leisure pants / basic riding leggings. Just leave out the zipper and sew in an elastic waistband.
The ladies' version comes in two lengths: Normal / long sizes, which will fit you if you are about 1,70m (5’7”) and taller, and the petite sizes for shorter ladies. Additionally, there is a ladies' version for average and one for „stronger“ calves.
Difficulty level: medium to hard, depending on the details.
PLEASE NOTE: My patterns don't include the seam allowance, it needs to be added when cutting out the pieces. All measurements are given in centimeters / meters.
