About our hat pattern:
This hat is a great starter pattern for anyone interested in the craft of hatmaking (Millinery) or those who want to tap their creative juices on the sewing machine with a new pattern. It's also suitable as a team project for mothers or fathers with their kids who are just learning to sew! Our user guide includes step-by-step pictures with instructions. Something you don't get with free downloads found online elsewhere.
We've made this pattern in a lovely Scottish tartan oilskin/waxed cotton with a cotton lining as we prefer it as a rain hat. You however can use whatever fabric you like! (We'd suggest minimal stretch, heavier weight fabrics).
Sizing: The pattern provided covers sizes XS-Large and comes with an easy to read User Guide. It also includes step by step pictures. We've tried to avoid any complicated sewing terms to make the journey as seamless(!) as possible.
This PDF sewing pattern is made up of 8 pattern pdf. and an 8-page user guide (A4 size). It includes a separate file for the pattern tiles and instruction booklet, so that should you wish, you can print only the pattern and read the instruction files on a computer or tablet.
These files are intended to be used and printed at home. *If printing at a print shop, please advise the print shop to print at 100% scale or print "as is". Ask the print shop to not scale, or fit to page, as this will throw the proportions off.
Head size measurements: This hat fits head size (20-23inches / 51-58cm). Please see the image noting head sizing for more details. This pattern is generally suitable for 3 years+ to adults.
Skill Level: The skill level on this pattern is ‘easy’, it would likely be a great pattern for a beginner. This is a great starting pattern for Children aged 12+ who are just learning to use a sewing machine in school or at home. Please note children should be supervised at all times.
How to find and download your pattern:
Once you have purchased the pattern, your files will be available to download immediately.
Please note, the files will download as .zip files. You will need to unzip the files before using them. On an Apple Mac computer, you can double click the zipped file, and this will open a new folder that contains the patterns. This is a PDF file and therefore will need to be opened in a programme that accepts pdf. format. Adobe reader works well and can be downloaded online completely free for Windows/Apple Mac computers! "Preview" also works well on Apple Mac computers.
You only need to print the files that are relevant to you. This pattern is a print-at-home pattern. The instructions are only written in English.
