The ebook includes the pattern BUMI by Nähfrosch, detailed sewing instructions with many photos and adjustment options, as well as practical tips for sewing.
Sew this romper for babies - with optional diaper opening!
A truly well-designed romper, that's BUMI! The one-piece is buttoned at the rounded straps as well as at the optional opening at the crotch to make changing convenient and uncomplicated. BUMI is very comfortable. Fold-over cuffs that grow with the baby keep the baby's legs covered and promise long-lasting fun with the romper.
BUMI can be sewn either single-layered with facing at the bib or double-layered and completely lined. Everything is explained step by step in our instructions - as well as simple adjustments so that the romper fits perfectly! There is even a summer version with short legs. BUMI is sewn from stretchy fabrics like knit fabric, velour, french terry or others. Quite a few bonus points, right? You might get hooked and sew 2, 3 or 4 BUMIs right away. At least that's what some of our enthusiastic test sewers did :-)
BUMI is Indonesian and translates into "earth" or "world". For all the new citizens of planet earth dressed in this cute romper!
Sewing level:
BUMI can easily become your first project, because the basic version is also suitable for beginners. We guide you with our step-by-step instructions and show you how it is done. You can sew the lined version with button placket when you have gained a little experience. And for all the pros here: You can't get enough of BUMI - I promise! The romper is sewn in no time and looks adorable.
Fabric recommendations:
Basically all fabrics that are stretchy and cozy are suitable for the baby romper BUMI. For example, knit fabric, nicki, french terry, elastic corduroy or jacquard. This makes it wonderfully comfortable for the little ones. Stretchy denim, for example, also looks great. The lining should, of course, have the same properties and be stretchy so that the little ones feel comfortable. For the leg cuffs, we recommend rip/ cuff fabric.
Fabric consumption:
For a fabric width of 150 cm (including seam allowance and some buffer):
Front and back piece: Sizes 56 - 68 = 70 cm, sizes 74 - 80 = 80 cm, sizes 86 - 98 = 90 cm
Bib facing: If the fabric is 150 cm wide, this can be cut from the fabric for the front and back, or you can use a different fabric, in which case you will need about 25 cm.
If you want to sew a fully lined version, you will need twice the amount of fabric for the front and back, or one of outer fabric and one of lining fabric, in place of the bib facing.
You can also easily calculate the amount needed yourself. Simply measure the width and height of the paper pattern pieces according to your desired size. Do not forget to add a seam allowance of 0.7 - 1 cm all around, as well as doubling the measured value in width (fold). In height, add seam allowances of up to 2-3 cm. Finally, add a few cm tolerance at the end.
Additional material: - Interfacing for reinforcement for the snap fasteners - Rip cuff fabric for the cuffs (approx. 30 cm) - Snap fasteners
