As 90s style makes a comeback, so does the oversized newsboy/baker boy hat! The Aran Baker Boy Cap is a fun interpretation of this classic, unisex style, easy to both knit and wear. As a knitter from the Aran Islands, I love taking elements of the traditional style, and adapting it to suit today’s lifestyles.
Design: The hat is knit in the round from the brim to the crown, with stitches picked up afterwards and knit back and forth in garter stitch for the brim, and finally a little ‘button’ is knit to attach to the crown. There are no complicated stitches involved; the hat is styled to have various ‘wedges’ which have a twisted stitch border, and moss or seed stitch within those borders. It would be suitable for improving beginners to intermediate knitters.
Sizing: The hat comes in three different adult sizes: Small, Medium and Large. The nature of the design makes it easy to adjust in size, if you wish to work outside the sizes given, as you merely work one more or less of the wedges.
Yarn: Aran (or worsted) weight yarn (around 150g/200m or 215 yards required)

I'm a knitter from the Aran Islands, combining traditional elements of Aran knitting (e.g. cables, lattice work) with more modern techniques, such as seamless knitting, to create my own original designs.
I first learnt to knit when I was about 6, and, at school, we moved on to Aran knitting pretty quickly! I kept knitting over the years, as a hobby, and also started knitting some items for my cousin to sell on Inis Mor, the largest of the Aran Islands. Then came the brainwave of setting up a shop online, so people could buy original Aran knits without having to come all the way here! I loved creating my own original designs, and eventually made the step to publishing them : )
I'm always happy to hear from you if you have any queries about my shop! You can find my online shop at www.aranaccessories.net and follow me on Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr @aranaccessories ; I am on Facebook at aranaccessories.net Le gach beannacht/With best wishes, Máirín Ní Dhonncha
